Has Old Spice Called?
Larry talks about working on Christopher Guest movies like A Mighty Wind, Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman and For Your Consideration. Hear about his acting pals such as Jane Lynch, Fred Willard, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy and others. Find out how Waiting for Guffman can help you find the man of your dreams and why a bald guy ponytail stopped Larry from walking to set.

Then we hear how much Larry likes having emails highlighted for him and why there’s a good chance that he will take his clothes off at any second. Speaking of clothes, if you’ve been thinking about renting out your underwear, Larry sagaciously cautions against doing so. Then our host once again expresses his love of Old Spice and deems Atlanta the drinkingest city in the nation.
Dial in to find out if Larry has lost his zest for melding bars of soap. Can he safeguard his fondness for fivefectas? Will his spirit rise like a dove? Or will it cool and harden like lava? Get all of this and POSSIBLY last week’s leftover Valentine’s Day stories in the latest installment of This Week With Larry Miller.

I wanted to comment about something Larry said that was almost a throw-away that had other commuters looking at me like I was insane because I was laughing so hard it was visible even in other cars.
Maybe it’s just my psychosis at work but the funniest part of the show happened with the line when Larry was talking about the five-fecta. He was lamenting his failure to create a soap-meld. He said “I always thought I was great at it, just great at it!”
It was the words and the intensity of the inflection that got me. I started busting a gut. I simultaneously understood it from his context and about five contexts specific to me. That recognition of the these little things we do in life, usually by ourselves with no one else to compare to, in which we believe we are masters at. “I am the best at toe-nail clipping”, “Nobody washes wine glasses as efficiently as I do.” Whatever it is, we all have that thought at some point doing some small task around the house or at work — “Damn, I’m really good at this.”
It is that kind instant jolt straight-to-the-core connection that makes this show so freakin’ good.
Again maybe it was just me, but that was thing that made me un-hinge my jaw (and made other people think they were sharing the road with a crazy person) the most in the episode.

Larry and gang:
I’d like to share with you a Facebook exchange between me and some of my friends where I turn a conversation about the merits of Denny’s (or lack thereof) into an unapologetic promotion for your show … because I love it. (A little exposition: I live in Phoenix, AZ, Willie lives in Youngstown, OH, Mandy lives in Las Vegas, NV.)
Me: I’m at Denny’s again. Wait … what’s the definition of crazy?
Willie: For someone who hates Denny’s, it seems that Denny’s is an abusive boyfriend and you are a hopeless romantic…Either that, or you’ve been reading the Tiger Woods best seller: “How to spot a hot waitress at Denny’s and bag her in one night, all while improving your golf swing.”
Mandy: Why I love living in Vegas #542: Other things are open 24/7 besides Denny’s. And let’s see the last time I went to Denny’s was with hmm… oh yeah, I remember. Yeah, time to get you in a 12 step program.
Me: You’re both right (unfortunately … except the Tiger Woods part, though that would make for a good story). There is a Denny’s nearly walking distance of my place, which makes it just a little too convenient when nothing else is open.
Don’t get me wrong … I’ve had some great times at Denny’s. But those have all been a function of the company I was keeping – certainly not the quality of the food. (So trying to recreate those magical Denny’s moments by yourself is next to impossible.) But as Larry Miller says, trying to recreate any magical moment is futile; the magic is hidden in the spontaneity. They are the types of things that just happen, that you really can’t TRY to do again.
(Yes, this was a long story to encourage everyone to listen to Larry Miller’s weekly half-hour podcast. This week’s episode: http://www.adamcarolla.com/LMBlog/2011/02/16/has-old-spice-called/)

Hey Larry
It made my day to hear your recite the Green Lantern Corps Oath. I grew up loving that comic as well. It’s also pretty great that you read comics with your sons for story time; I think I might start doing that with kids as well.
Thanks for all the laughs. You make my long walk into work a happier one when your shows come out.
Keep up the great work.
